    10:33 -- This is the one thing I was trying to figure out how to do in newer versions of Melodyne: hearing all the notes in a chord while sliding. All you have to do is drag the note as usual, then hold Command after the initial click-hold. This is under "Monitoring pitch shifts" in the manual, for more info.

    This is a disappointing presentation. You are not really explaining things on a basic level . Your example for instance, of a Tambura, described as a basic sound is not a basic sound ! It's a very complex sound ! You at 1st, "strip away all the "overtones" to show only the 7th harmonic". but that is definitely not a sine wave ! it sounds like at least two different sines that are beating against each other. What ? ?. I also seem to be hearing a little of the original fundamental leaking through. Yes You have a powerful analytic engine, but You certainly are not explaining how sound works from the basic elements. By recording all these overtones over time, You are also capturing all the phase relationships that gradually change over the course of time, and so You are not really discussing how detuning of two closely similar frequencies create constructive/destructive interference and how that occurs in natural instruments.... so the result is sort of a magic show gloss...blows the socks off, without showing that the foundation is the feet & legs under those socks. The Narrator reads "chipmunk effect", instead of what You said "mickey mouse effect". Both of these involved speeding up a recorded voice but they are not the same. Walt Disney who did Mickey Mouse, and the Narrator for Simon & Chipmunks cartoon, both listened to higher voices slowed down and attempted to recreate some of that sound, so that vowels wouldn't be completely distorted, and the speech wouldn't be too fast. You also don't really explain, at all what formant theory is... and it was subjectively defined, back in the late 30's 40's by various acousticians attempting to recreate speech, but is not the greatest theory... As the relationship between modes of vibration of the larynx and the airspaces in Mouth throat, lungs and sinuses is also much more complicated. Lots of interesting stuff here... but I wish You had at least given one example of getting from point A, thru B,C, and to point G, and come up with something that increased our understanding, by elucidating the principles in a clear methodical way. The example of superimposing the clarinet "harmonics" over time, onto a saxophone harmonics, over time was closer to what I was hoping for, but especially instructive, would have been to show how putting a cello ADSR envelope, and ADSR filter envelope over a saxophone general waveform, produces what still sounds pretty much like a cello.

    OK, I sing terribly (IMO) but I've been thinking that changing it as much as Melodyne can -- is it still my performance anymore? I think of musicians with not so great voices like Neil Young, Bob Dylan, etc and I wonder if these guys would have been as influential as they were had their vocals been "perfect".

    • @celemony
      @celemony 26 дней назад

      You don’t have to aim for ‘perfect’ vocals (whatever that is supposed to be), but having a tool like Melodyne gives you lots of options from hard tuning to subtle changes - which you may or may not want to apply to your vocal tracks. That’s up to you. 🙂

    • @celemony

      You mean if you have a full mix stereo track only? If the vocal double is very close to the lead vocals, it will be hard or even impossible to separate it from the lead. Also, that’s not what Melodyne was designed for.

    Not sure if I can ask questions..where is melodyne a good placement in editing/mastering chain, before everything-eq, compression, but maybe again in end with timing?

    • @celemony
      @celemony Месяц назад

      We recommend putting Melodyne in the very first insert slot of your effect chain. Otherwise, since Melodyne works internally with a copy of your audio track, any effect plug-ins before Melodyne would be printed to the working copy. That’s not ideal if you want to change some parameters later in the mix. Also, there’s no need for multiple Melodyne instances in the same effect chain. You can edit everything in one Melodyne window. Hope this helps.
